About

My Story

Hi, I'm Jess, founder and creator of Canberra Dog Works. I've loved dogs my whole life and love seeing them learn, grow and gain skills through playing fun games and building their relationship with their humans through trust and engagement.

Jess gained her Certificate III in Dog Training and Behaviour through the National Dog Training Federation in 2021 and started her dog training with Pups4Fun, teaching puppy classes and helping to establish and teach their first adult dog training classes.

I established Canberra Dog Works to provide games and engagement activities to help dogs build confidence, learn resilience and develop life long skills to help them navigate the sometimes overwhelming big wide world.

I also teach Muster Balls, which allows herding breed dogs to use their natural skills and instincts and provide an outlet for all that energy. As a kelpie owner, I know how important it is to provide dogs with an outlet that provides biological fulfillment.

Many herding breeds are misunderstood, which can lead to problem behaviours if they become bored living in their urban environments.

Muster balls is a game where these dogs get to use their natural instincts to stalk, eye, chase and capture balls in a fun and safe environment. This allows them to use their high intelligence to problem solve and build a strong relationship with their handler. We'll build up to using traditional stock handling cues, and your dog will learn to walk up, stop, sit or lie down and circle around you in order to capture the ball.

This game is ideal for shy or reactive dogs as we work in a safe and secure yard. Only one dog works at a time whilst the others are secured away from the working area.
